December brought our family a holiday
with no place to go! We had thought about Tunisia, Crete or Egypt,
but nothing came through from the package tour industry that suited what
we wanted and needed as a family. So, with a spare four days to go
‘till the beginning of a three-week winter holiday, we decided to drive
to Istanbul, Turkey. We had no reservations, no itinerary and no
idea where and what we would do. We knew we had to break the trip
into segments, so we looked at the European map on the wall in our living
room and saw equal thirds: Sofia, Plovdiv (Bulgaria) and Edirne (Turkey).
