We
ate our first night's dinner at a restaurant just around the corner from
the hotel (Dave knew about it from his previous visit to Sofia with a group
of students). It was decorated with all sorts of handicrafts and things
from down on the old Bulgarian farm, including big hanging copper bells.
The kids (and the parents) were fascinated by the 'making dinner in a ceramic
egg' thing that they did. All the ingredients were put in a ceramic egg,
placed in a traditional dome brick oven with a long wooden paddle, set
to cook and 30 minutes later pulled out, set on fire, shattered, and then
eaten (not the egg, but all the stuff inside). |
