Chiang Mai

A day at the zoo

Following our village visits, we decided to spend a day closer to 'home.'

Mom is not usually so keen to visit zoos: her experience has been that they are miserable for the animals and amost as miserable on families. However, Chang Mai zoo was an exception.  It is a HUGE botanical garden with lot of open spaces, huge enclosures and dense vegetation everywhere.   We ended up spending a very happy day there.

Breck got to see his tigers, the peacock did a dazzling dispaly of tail and the male hippo let us know just how he felt about Dave taking pictures of his 'harem'.

The kids climbed and played on any number of playscapes and they even fed raw meat to the jaguars!  You won't get THAT happening at a zoo in the USA!

While not a traditional zoo animal, the little pig in the Santa suit did his paces for us and ran through hoops, jumped over a ball and balanced on a beam for us.  Merry Christmas, and now off to the beach
