Of COURSE we had to stop and have an ice cream after the sizzling heat of the arena.  The kids even let themselves be ‘misunderstood’ by the server, so they got two scoops of ice cream this day!

After our refreshment break, we explored the interior of old Pula.  We saw the Arch of Sergius, the Forum and temple of Augustus.

We also meandered through the old Renaissance and Medieval streets (many blocked off due to the archeological excavations being carried out – fascinating)!

We – very slowly in the heat - climbed the highest hill in Pula to see the Genoese castle/fortress, the headquarters of the forces that ruled the area from the 13-15th centuries.

Carla explored the cool interior of St. Charles church while the kids and Susan stayed out on the streets.

Breck taught Nathan how to arm tootle (clearly onset sun stroke).

We then happily descended to explore the shaded gardens of the Pula museum.

What a magnificent day!
