existed. During the 1992 - 93 school year we explored a country struggling
to make sense of a proud past and an uncertain future, and were rewarded
with glimpses of the best of both worlds. We returned as a family in 2000
to see just what changes time had brought to the country (and to us!!).

Unfortunately, some of the more destructive
practices of the Maya, such as slash and burn agriculture, are still being
practiced today.
Of course, there are fascinating remnants
of the Spanish influence!
