I had a chance to travel to Morocco for a conference in the fall of 2003, and took the opportunity to explore the city as much as time permitted. The souk was an amazing site, and was well-visited by locals and tourists alike. |

Notice to travelers:The fascinating thing about the trip was that between the 8 people from our school who travelled, we had skills in English, Serbian, Spanish, German, and Russian - but none of those helped us in a land dominated by French and Arabic. My rudimentery Arabic impressed the people much more than I had expected, and it turned out to be a real blessing. It was one of my first experiences in a country where their second language was not my first - and it was an unexpected struggle!! Advice - pick up some basic French before visiting - it will pay dividends! |

Even today, the glitter of brass, copper, and gold is reflected on the walls that have seen so much history. |
