Because of the nature of the trip, we really didn't have a lot of time for sightseeing, but we were lucky in one major respect. We were housed at the Rossiya Hotel, an enormous hulking mass of Soviet-era concrete situate right outside of Red Square. That made it very easy for us to go out at night when the lights were on and enjoy the best-known sights. |
We saw charging horses and hard-working women on painted cows (and were yelled at for taking her picture!) St. George is the patron saint of Moscow,
and we've adopted him for our own as well, so the huge world map with him
on it was pretty impressive to see.

It was interesting to note that there were still plenty of facades around town with the old hammer and sickle carved in them - even with the Russian flag displayed above (not to mention the red stars on the Kremlin's towers) |
