Warsaw Sights

Warsaw is a city of beautiful contradictions. Boasting a history spanning hundreds of years, it suffered a horrific fate during WWII as its population was decimated by war and genocide. Rising like a phoenix from the ashes, parts of the historic district were rebuilt to provide continuity with the past.

That continuity is evident today, as flower vendors compete with Rolex imitators for sidewalk selling space. Churches are everywhere, yet the lifestlye seems open and welcoming of those with different views.

One of the most fascinating pieces of modern architecture, though, is in the form of a 'gift' from the USSR in 1955. Still the tallest building in the city, the Palace of Culture that Stalin had built in Warsawa was a constant reminder that Big Brother really was watching.
