We visited two of these fortresses:
Veliki Tabor and Trakoscan.
Trakoscan is the larger and more well
known of the two castles. It was the heriditary domain of the Draskovic
family. A lovely man-made lake at the bottom of the hill called to
us and we spent a quiet afternoon paddling around and taking too may pictures:)
Veliki Tabor was under major contsruction,
but we still enjoyed wandering around and getting an impression of what
happens to buildings when they are built, used, attacked, pilfered, abandoned,
reclaimed, restored and made public.
