Munich 2006

The Hofbräuhaus!

When I think of Munich, the first thing that leaps into my mind is beer, so it is no surprise that the first thing we did on the first night we were in town was to go to the most famous beer hallof them all. From the moment we walked in the door, we realized those stories were not exaggerated. We entered a smoky riot of noise and sights that was just like something out of a movie.

The most fantastic thing about it was that at least 2/3rds of the people there were locals, regulars with their own ceramic steins that were kept locked up for the next time they visited.

We were serenaded by an oompah band marching around on the tables, and quickly threw ourselves headlong into the frenzy of the evening.

We managed to get in at a table with a group of men from northern Germany - Eddie and his friends - and after many toasts and Prosits! we had to work really hard to convince his buddy to wake back up. Even the "Big Pretzel" boy got into the act!

We managed to keep (most of) our wits about us, even as those at neighboring tables weren't so lucky. Sadly, the place closes at midnight, but as we wobbled back to our hostel, we had plenty of memories of our glorious introduction to Munich
But we never bought any beer drinking nutcrackers...
