Ohrid is situated on a Lake by the same name, one of the deepest and oldest lakes in Europe. It has been a crossroads since time immemorial and played a role in the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires. Records refer to the city (in ancient times known as Lychnidos) more the 2500 years ago. I visited as the first stop on my Balkan Express trip in February, 2007 for a little relaxation.
