Greece

Corinth rivaled Athens as one of the wealthiest and most important city-states in ancient Greece.  The Temple of Apollo (shown below) is all that remains from the early Greeks.  Everything else is Roman.  St. Paul did much work in Corinth during his travels.  He spoke from the Bemea, which would have overlooked the scene on the right below.

The Temple of Apollo, God of the Sun

The Greeks and Romans did amazing things as civil engineers.  The arch on the far right hides a natural spring.  The water falls into tubs built behind the other arches and is then dispersed throughout the city's wells, pools and drains by an elaborate underground maze..  The entire town is built so gravity  pulls water, waste and sewage away from town.
The city of ancient Corinth had two main streets, both lined with shops.  This arch is just one of many that housed merchants and their goods.

We all enjoyed playing around with the many columns and statues that we found in Corinth.  The Museum housed those that were 'worth' something (which means they had heads).
