Lots of German, Dutch and English expats have retired here, so there was lots of western food and the kids and Susan availed themselves of hamburgers twice a day. Dave enjoyed sea food (though still thinks the eating in Croatia was the best he's had). |
Kuta is the main beach where folks go to be 'seen' in Bali. For this reason, Sanur is often called Snore. We, coming from Mumbai, were more than happy to be hanging out in Snore. The beach was a long stretch of white sand with a mix of high end resorts, green growth, and fishing villages. We were pleasantly surprised at the snorkeling in the area. It was sandy bottom with lots of green seaweed, but we saw starfish, sea snakes, sea cucumbers, lots of fish and eels! Given it had been a year since we had been snorkeling in Thailand, this was big news and a wonderful way to spend two days. |
Unfortunately, we forgot how close to the equator we were, so we all got thoroughly sunburned :( Argh. Our third day was spent at our hotel downing cold lemon shakes and slipping into the pool to cool our sizzle and pop. We spent another day easing our pain, and then it was off to Amed via the Bat Cave and Water Palace. |
