Salzburg 2006

Christmas Market

What would a good Germanic city be without a Christmas market. We were so excited to find that Salzburg's had opened when we came to town.

Holiday decorations signified the season

Mulled wine stands ringed the main square

Handemade trinkets await holiday shoppers

A fantastic array (at fantastically expensive prices)

Horse-drawn carriages carried shoppers through the brightly-lit streets

Beautiful handpainted ornaments were everywhere

A metal ornament featuring the stands that are iconic everywhere in this region

Serene white painted glass bulbs

Handmade nutcrackers stand guard on the shelf

The owner of a toy stand is surrounded by his wares

Even the nuns get into the Christmas market!!

The statue of Mozart looks out over a public skating rink, and horsedrawn carriages wait to take weary shoppers around the town
