Built to honor Russian
soldiers who died fighting for Bulgaria's independence, the Alexander Nevsky
cathedral is perhaps the most iconic buildings in town. If you know anything
about Sofia, and someone asks you to picture a famous place, chances are
that this is what springs to mind.
The building overwhelms
as you approach it, as there are just so many domes, arches, and overhangs.
In the winter it has the added interesting element of icicles adding another
level of intricacy.
Inside, the scale is no less vast,
including a throne flanked by 2 lions that our kids decided simply must
be good luck to pet
