Interaction And Social Change

Overview:  In this task, you will examine the community institutions of the school.  Using a variety of research techniques, you will paint a picture of the institution as it is today and then determine what has changed in the institution over time.  You will suggest reasons why the changes have taken place and why certain elements have remained unchanged.
  • You grad standard will involve making 1 of 3 types of 'yearbook'
    1. Powerpoint
    2. Webpage
    3. Paper
  • Your yearbook will answer the question “How has the institution of school changed?"
    • You must focus on at least 4 specific aspects of school change to study
    • We will brainstorm examples of these aspects in class
  • To answer the question, you will include the following information:
    • Comparisons between this year's R Book and those from 2 different decades
    • Comparisons between last year's yearbook and those from 3 different decades
    • Interviews with 2 different people who graduated from high school more than 10 years ago and 1 person who graduated fewer than 10 years ago
  • Your yearbook must include the following information
  • An introduction/welcome and table of contents (2 'pages')
  • Comparisons between the aspects of school from today and in the past (4 topics x 3 different decades = at least 12 'pages')
  • Conclusion page(s) summarizing how school has both changed and stayed the same during the time period you examined (2 'pages')

  • Students thoroughly conducted original research and followed the instructions given
  • Class time was used in a productive manner
  • The history of the institution is thoroughly traced in terms of change and continuityThe changes in society’s norms and values are thoughtfully discussed and clearly reflect on the changes in your aspect of school. 
  • The yearbook clearly discusses the effects gender, race, social class, status, and role issues have had in your aspect of school. 
  • All elements of the yearbook requirements are present
  • Yearbook is completed in an aesthetically pleasing manner
  • Grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage are correct
  • Conclusions accurately summarize and reflect your yearbook's information
  • Presentation to the class is professional, complete, and engaging
