Be aware that the first couple of questions are usually easy as the purpose is to allow you to adjust to the exam. Do not overestimate your abilities and expect the rest of the questions to be more challenging. This will tone down the level of shock you may feel as the exam progresses. The best bet is to go right through all the M/C questions and answer all those you know as quickly as you can. You will then see that you have plenty of time to go back and take care in answering those you left. REMEMBER YOU HAVE 42 SECONDS PER QUESTION.
Do not expect to know the answers to every question on the AP exam. You should not stress over getting 100% on the AP exam. REMEMBER, everyone is using a different book so some topics may not be completely covered in your text.
It is okay to skip a couple of questions on the Multiple Choice section. REMEMBER, a right answer will give you 1 mark while a wrong answer will cost you ¼ mark. If you truly have no idea what the answer would be, leave it. The conventional wisdom from some AP teachers is if you can eliminate at least half of the options, then guess.
Do not waste your time contemplating a question you do not know the answer. Pick up clues from later questions, then go back and attempt those you skipped.
REMEMBER, the majority of multiple choice questions relate to VOCABULARY. Make sure you at least memorized the entire vocabulary in your psychology textbook if you do not plan to review the entire textbook.
NOTE: It might be wise to get a text by another author, and review their glossary and edit the one in your text. You might do this in early April. If you find a question that appears to be very ambiguous, make a note of the number and the ambiguity and send it in to ETS after the exam. Remember every year some of the M/C questions are thrown out. Look at the released exams for 1994 & 1999
Students should not guess blindly if the are certain that they do not know the answer. One-fourth of the number of questions answered incorrectly will be subtracted from the number of questions answered correctly. It is generally a good strategy to eliminate incorrect responses if possible, and if necessary make an educated guess.
Be sure to read each question carefully, making sure that you understand what the question is asking.
