Eid is actually 2 celebrations - one at
the end of the Muslim month of fasting (Ramadan) and one at the end of the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca.
For the second Eid (the 'big' Eid),
families will typically slaughter an animal or two and then distribute some
of the meat and hide for the poorer people of the city. As the big day
drew near, we started to see many of these sacrificial goats begin to make
their way to various homes! I could've sworn I heard bleating from
our own basement...
Our downstairs neighbors (who own
the Kiara building) always throw a big party
for both Eids. The lights go up and the back of the house is thrown open
for family and friends.
As their daughter is supposed to be
getting married this January, I'm sure there'll be lots of family members from both sides celebrating.
